Serious competitive journey in Judo — what it really takes
I've been competing in Judo for three years now, training five days a week. I want to give an honest picture of what the competitive path looks like.
The technical demands compound. harai-goshi at beginner level and at competition level are almost different skills. Understanding nage-waza throwing techniques deeply enough to deploy it under pressure takes years, not months. Studying Yasuhiro Yamashita's approach changed how I think about the game entirely. how hip positioning changes everything is what makes it worth the commitment. trusting breakfalling (ukemi) instinctively is the tax you pay. Not everyone needs to compete — but if you have the itch, chase it. It will make you better in every direction.
