Watching Katie Ledecky made me start — training made me stay

I got into Swimming after watching Katie Ledecky compete and thinking I wanted a piece of that. Reality check: what they make look effortless takes years of work. The high elbow catch I admired on screen took me 8 months just to do passably.

But somewhere in that process I stopped caring about looking like Katie Ledecky and started caring about my own progress with pace per 100m. That shift is when Swimming really got its hooks in me. flip turns becoming automatic is the part nobody sees in the highlights. technique errors entrenching without coaching is the part nobody mentions either. Both are real. Both are worth knowing.
