The Peterbald is an elegant, hairless or partly haired Russian breed created in 1994 from a cross between a Donskoy and an Oriental Shorthair. They inherit the angular, graceful body of the Oriental and the hairless or sparse coat of the Donskoy. Peterbalds are affectionate, intelligent, and highly social cats who bond intensely with their families.

Pros

  • Extremely affectionate and bonded to family
  • Intelligent and interactive
  • Various coat types from hairless to short brush coated
  • Sociable with other pets and people

Cons

  • Needs regular skin care (oily skin in hairless varieties)
  • Sensitive to cold and sun
  • Very social, does not tolerate isolation well
  • Can be expensive due to rarity

Cold weather management required

My Peterbald struggles in winter. She seeks warm spots obsessively and shivers when temperatures drop below comfortable indoor levels. Interactive beyond expectation

My Peterbald plays fetch, comes when called, and has learned several training behaviours with clicker training. She is more interactive than most cats I have owned. Her intelligence is evident in her problem-solving and in the speed with which she learns new things. She is genuinely engaging to live…
