The Siamese is one of the oldest and most distinctive cat breeds, originating in Thailand (formerly Siam) where they were kept as sacred temple cats. Known for their striking colourpoint markings, brilliant blue eyes, and remarkably vocal personality, Siamese are intensely social animals who form deep bonds with their owners. They are the most talkative cats in the world — and will make sure you know it.
Pros
- Deeply social and forms strong bonds with their people
- Highly intelligent and interactive — like having a conversational companion
- Striking appearance: vivid blue eyes and colourpoint coat
- Playful and kitten-like throughout their life
- Long lifespan — often 15–20 years
Cons
- Very vocal — their yowl can be startling and persistent
- Needs constant company and interaction — not suited to long hours alone
- Can be jealous and demanding of attention
- Prone to certain health conditions including dental disease and respiratory issues
