The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas. VW's boldest SUV — genuinely spacious three-row seating in a refined, well-equipped package.

Quality control issues from day one

Factory fit-and-finish issues: door seal whistles at speed, dashboard rattle took three dealer visits to fix, paint imperfection on boot lid. Disappointing for this price. Car should have been right first time.

Not what I expected

Reliability has been below the brand's reputation. Two dealer visits in the first year for issues that shouldn't exist on a new car. Interior quality also doesn't match the asking price.

Impressed after 12 months

Sceptical when I ordered — playing it safe rather than exciting myself. A year in, genuinely impressed. More refined than expected, seats comfortable on long trips, nothing unexpected has gone wrong.

Resale value is remarkable

Just had my 2021 Volkswagen Atlas valued after three years — depreciation far lower than I budgeted. Trouble-free ownership. A genuinely smart long-term buy.

Decent, but not outstanding

Solid car that does its job without exciting me. Ride comfortable, easy to drive, safety features work well. Interior materials feel a step below the price point, engine noisy when pushed. Reliable but not class-leading.

Family road trip approved

1,200-mile round trip with two kids and a dog. Boot swallowed everything, rear space genuinely comfortable, fuel stops infrequent. Kids slept most of the way. Ultimate endorsement.

My favourite commuter ever

40 miles each way. The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas makes the commute genuinely enjoyable. Seats stay comfortable, adaptive cruise works brilliantly, fuel costs reasonable. After 25,000 miles nothing has gone wrong.

Good but expected more

Competent, reliable, comfortable. But 'competent' isn't what you want spending this much. Hard plastic panels in places, engine note unpleasant. Test-drive the competition before committing.

Ongoing reliability nightmare

Fourteen months, more time at the dealer than my driveway. Turbo failed at 8,000 miles, infotainment blank at 11,000 miles, persistent vibration they cannot locate. First and last experience with this brand.

Disappointed — expected better reliability

Bought on strong reviews and brand reputation. Ongoing electronic issues: infotainment crashed twice, emergency braking triggered unexpectedly three times. Dealer slow to acknowledge. Driving experience fine but reliability has soured everything.
