What nobody tells you about visiting Canada
After a lot of research I thought I knew what to expect from Canada. Some things matched: Banff National Park is as spectacular as every review says, and Vancouver has a genuine energy I'd read about. The tourtière obsession is completely justified.
What I wasn't prepared for: stunning national par…

Weekend in Toronto, Canada — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 8 days — in Canada, based in Toronto. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Banff National Park on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The fresh maple syrup situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Disappointed by the tourist experience around Rocky Mountains
Rocky Mountains in Canada is extraordinary — the scale and history hit you immediately. But the experience around it has been thoroughly commercialised. Getting there, navigating the crowds, and dealing with persistent sellers around Quebec City centre made it more stressful than it should be.

The food in Canada changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Canada shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. poutine alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Vancouver is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 7 days.

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Canada wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Vancouver reset everything — the scale of Rocky Mountains and the quality of the poutine were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.
