Honest thoughts on Hong Kong after my first visit
First time in Hong Kong and I tried to approach it with open eyes rather than preconceptions. Sai Kung was the base and a good one — central, manageable, and with strong food options including the best milk tea I've ever had. Big Buddha Lantau was the big set piece and fully justified the trip.

Mixed experience in Hong Kong — beautiful but overhyped
Hong Kong is undeniably beautiful. Big Buddha Lantau and the area around Wan Chai have a visual quality that photographs don't capture fully. I enjoyed roast goose and appreciated excellent hiking despite being a city. That's all real.
But can feel overwhelming and relentless was more of a problem …

Solo trip to Hong Kong: everything you need to know
Did 7 days solo in Hong Kong and found it extremely manageable as a solo traveller. The transport network around Mong Kok is decent and getting to Big Buddha Lantau independently was straightforward. Met fellow travellers easily and locals were generally happy to chat.

Unexpected emotional depth in Hong Kong
I thought I was going to Hong Kong for beaches, food, and Hong Kong skyline. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Kowloon — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.
spectacular harbour views was the mo…

The food in Hong Kong changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Hong Kong shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. egg tarts alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Kowloon is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 6 days.

Photography trip to Hong Kong — every frame a gift
I came to Hong Kong specifically for photography and the country delivered material at every turn. Hong Kong skyline at dawn was everything I'd hoped. Sai Kung's streets at dusk are an endless source of light and texture. The people, once comfortable with a camera, are extraordinary subjects.

Hong Kong skyline alone makes Hong Kong worth the trip
I'll be honest — I went to Hong Kong primarily to see Hong Kong skyline, and it delivered beyond what any photo prepares you for. But the surrounding region surprised me just as much. Sai Kung has a character I didn't anticipate, and wandering without a plan for an afternoon turned out to be one of …

Hong Kong in shoulder season — best decision I made
Visited Hong Kong in shoulder season deliberately and the decision paid off completely. Hong Kong skyline without peak crowds is a totally different experience. Mong Kok felt lived-in rather than touristy. Found a small place doing the best dim sum I've ever tasted — something that would have been i…

Weekend in Sai Kung, Hong Kong — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 16 days — in Hong Kong, based in Sai Kung. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Big Buddha Lantau on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The milk tea situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Backpacking through Hong Kong on a tight budget — totally doable
Did Hong Kong on a shoestring for 14 days and it was absolutely manageable. Based in cheap guesthouses near Kowloon centre and ate mostly at local spots — claypot rice from street stalls cost almost nothing and was better than anything in a tourist restaurant.
Star Ferry has an entry fee but worth …
