Weekend in Budapest, Hungary — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 17 days — in Hungary, based in Budapest. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Eger Castle on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The langos situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Honest review after 19 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Hungary for 19 days. The positives are real: Buda Castle is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Győr is genuinely excellent — try goulash if you haven't. thermal bath culture was an unexpected bonus.
That said, tourist traps near Váci utca. It's not a dealbreake…

Mixed experience in Hungary — beautiful but overhyped
Hungary is undeniably beautiful. Fisherman's Bastion and the area around Debrecen have a visual quality that photographs don't capture fully. I enjoyed Tokaj wine and appreciated remarkably affordable. That's all real.
But service can feel formal was more of a problem than I expected based on revie…

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Hungary wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Eger reset everything — the scale of Hungarian Parliament and the quality of the goulash were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.
Budapest is spectacularly beauti…

Unexpected emotional depth in Hungary
I thought I was going to Hungary for beaches, food, and Széchenyi Thermal Bath. I got all of those things. What I didn't expect was how emotionally affecting the trip would be. The history — particularly around Eger — hit in ways that good travel sometimes does.

I wanted to love Hungary more than I did. The positives exist: Hungarian Parliament is genuinely impressive, Budapest has moments of real charm, and Hortobágy pancakes is as good as people say.
But tourist traps near Váci utca was a persistent problem throughout the trip and dragged the experience …

Returned to Hungary for the third time — keeps getting better
This was my third visit to Hungary and I keep finding new reasons to return. This time I explored beyond Debrecen and discovered a completely different side of the country. Eger Castle never loses its impact no matter how many times you've seen it.
The food still makes me happy in ways I can't full…

Family holiday in Hungary — kids loved it, parents survived
Took the family to Hungary for 16 days and it worked better than I'd hoped. The kids were fascinated by Fisherman's Bastion — more than I expected from children who usually resist sightseeing. Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and Hortobágy pancakes went …

My 20 days exploring Pécs and beyond — completely worth it
I spent 20 days in Hungary and based myself mainly in Pécs. The city itself exceeded expectations — the Eger Castle was genuinely jaw-dropping and I ended up visiting twice. Food was a highlight throughout; I must have eaten Hortobágy pancakes every other day and have no regrets about it whatsoever.…

What nobody tells you about visiting Hungary
After a lot of research I thought I knew what to expect from Hungary. Some things matched: Fisherman's Bastion is as spectacular as every review says, and Győr has a genuine energy I'd read about. The goulash obsession is completely justified.
What I wasn't prepared for: thermal bath culture. That …
