Bergen surprised me completely on this trip to Norway
I went to Norway with modest expectations and left completely won over, largely thanks to time spent in Bergen. The city has a pace and character that travel guides undersell. Found a great spot for bacalao on day two and went back every day after that.
Geirangerfjord was the big planned experience…

Honeymoon in Norway — Bergen and the countryside delivered everything
We chose Norway for our honeymoon and it was perfect for us. The romantic atmosphere in Bergen at night, the drama of Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), the intimacy of small restaurants serving fårikål — all of it added up to exactly what we were hoping for.

Weekend in Tromsø, Norway — more than I expected from a short trip
Only had a long weekend — about 16 days — in Norway, based in Tromsø. More than enough to fall for the place. Did Lofoten Islands on day one and spent the rest of the time just walking and eating. The rakfisk situation here is no joke — some of the best eating I've done anywhere.

Honest review after 16 days — mostly great, a few gripes
Visited Norway for 16 days. The positives are real: Northern Lights is every bit as impressive as advertised, and the food scene around Stavanger is genuinely excellent — try brunost if you haven't. midnight sun in summer was an unexpected bonus.
That said, weather is unpredictable. It's not a deal…

The food in Norway changed how I think about travel
I travel for food more than anything else, and Norway shot straight to the top of my culinary travel list. smoked salmon alone justified the flight, but that was just the beginning. The variety and quality in Stavanger is relentless — I didn't have a single disappointing meal in 12 days.

Family holiday in Norway — kids loved it, parents survived
Took the family to Norway for 18 days and it worked better than I'd hoped. The kids were fascinated by Lofoten Islands — more than I expected from children who usually resist sightseeing. Food was manageable: even the pickiest eater in our group found things to eat, and kjøttkaker went down well wit…

Would not rush back to Norway — weather is unpredictable was a real issue
I wanted to love Norway more than I did. The positives exist: Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock) is genuinely impressive, Ålesund has moments of real charm, and smoked salmon is as good as people say.
But weather is unpredictable was a persistent problem throughout the trip and dragged the experience down.…

Arrived with low expectations, left completely converted
Norway wasn't high on my travel list. A friend pushed me to go and I'm genuinely grateful. The first full day in Oslo reset everything — the scale of Geirangerfjord and the quality of the fårikål were immediate signals that I'd misjudged the place completely.

Three weeks in Norway — here is what I actually think
Three weeks is long enough to get past the tourist surface in Norway. The first week I was in Bergen and the big sites like Flåm Railway. The second and third I went further and slower. The food evolution was interesting — smoked salmon everywhere but prepared so differently by region.

Disappointed by the tourist experience around Lofoten Islands
Lofoten Islands in Norway is extraordinary — the scale and history hit you immediately. But the experience around it has been thoroughly commercialised. Getting there, navigating the crowds, and dealing with persistent sellers around Ålesund centre made it more stressful than it should be.
