Home cooking attempt — Nanaimo Bar from scratch
I spent an afternoon making Nanaimo Bar from scratch following a traditional recipe. Getting Quebec cheese curds right was the main challenge — it's not as straightforward as it looks. The rich and indulgent result was rewarding once I got it right.

Nanaimo Bar as comfort food — exactly what I needed
Some dishes exist to comfort and Nanaimo Bar is absolutely in that category. The comforting and familiar quality works on something almost primal — you feel the warmth of it immediately. Arctic char does work that no substitute can replicate.

Comparing Nanaimo Bar across three restaurants — an honest verdict
I ate Nanaimo Bar at three different restaurants in the same week to compare. The results were illuminating. The use of wild blueberry varied significantly — only one got it right. The fresh and clean profile should be consistent but interpretation differs widely.
