Traditional versus modern Miso Soup — which wins?
I've now had Miso Soup prepared traditionally and in a modern interpretation. Both are interesting. The traditional version emphasises fresh wasabi in the way seasonal ingredients guide the menu in traditional settings. The delicate and precise character is more pronounced and direct.

Restaurant review — Miso Soup that actually delivered
I'm sceptical of any restaurant claiming to do Miso Soup well, having been disappointed often enough. This one delivered. The subtly sweet and salty base was authentic and the use of sake showed real knowledge.

Miso Soup for a dinner party — went down extremely well
I made Miso Soup for eight guests who had varying familiarity with the cuisine. Every single person asked for the recipe. The delicate and precise profile was the main talking point — no one had quite experienced soy sauce used that way before.

Finding the best Miso Soup in the city — a personal search
I spent three months trying every version of Miso Soup I could find locally. The variation in quality is extraordinary. The best version handled sake with genuine knowledge and the subtly sweet and salty result was noticeably superior.

First time trying Miso Soup — completely converted
I had never tried Miso Soup before this visit and I wasn't sure what to expect. The deeply savoury taste hit immediately and made sense of the dish in a way descriptions never quite do. dashi stock is an ingredient I'd not encountered used quite like this before.

Decent Miso Soup — nothing more, nothing less
Miso Soup at this place was fine. The delicate and precise flavour was there but not distinguished. mirin was present in the right quantities but without the care that makes the difference. You can taste when something is being made to a formula.

Spice level warning — Miso Soup is not what I expected
I underestimated Miso Soup. The subtly sweet and salty description didn't prepare me for the reality. fresh wasabi brings a heat or pungency that builds steadily rather than hitting upfront. By halfway through I was sweating but couldn't stop eating.

Pairing Miso Soup correctly — a note on sake
Most people overlook how much the right drink changes Miso Soup. I ordered it with sake and the delicate and precise elements of the dish sharpened considerably against the pairing. dashi stock in particular became more prominent in a good way.

Underwhelming Miso Soup — expected more
I was looking forward to Miso Soup here based on the reputation. The reality was disappointing. The deeply savoury character that makes this dish special was muted — either from shortcuts with sake or from scaling up production at the expense of quality.

Best Miso Soup I've had — and I've tried a few
Having eaten Miso Soup at several restaurants over the past year, I can say this version is the best. The subtly sweet and salty quality is more pronounced here than anywhere else I've tried. sake is handled with real knowledge — you can taste the difference.
