Disappointed given the reputation

Django Unchained is technically accomplished and I understand its place in film history. But it left me cold. The the mythology of the Western element felt mechanical and I never connected emotionally. Maybe I'll try again someday.

Not my genre but it completely won me over

I usually avoid this kind of film but gave Django Unchained a chance after constant recommendations. Completely converted. Quentin Tarantino transcends genre entirely. It works as pure human drama first and everything else second.

A film that demands your full attention

Django Unchained is not background viewing. Every scene requires you. Put your phone down, dim the lights. Quentin Tarantino is doing too much to be half-watched. Give it the attention it deserves.

Better on second watch

I liked Django Unchained when I first saw it, but the second viewing is where it clicked. Once you notice how Quentin Tarantino plants every detail early on, the whole film transforms. Layers everywhere.

Hard to watch but impossible to look away

Django Unchained deals with slavery and freedom in a way that's genuinely uncomfortable at times. But that discomfort is the point. Quentin Tarantino never lets you look away, and the film is better for it.
