Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

I didn't expect Thor: Ragnarok to affect me so deeply. The way Taika Waititi handles the truth about Asgard's history is unlike anything I'd seen before. I came out of it looking at the world differently.

Thor: Ragnarok deals with reinvention in a way that's genuinely uncomfortable at times. But that discomfort is the point. Taika Waititi never lets you look away, and the film is better for it.

I went into Thor: Ragnarok knowing nothing — no trailer, no plot summary. I strongly recommend that approach. The reinvention hits much harder when you haven't been primed for it. Go in cold.

We watched Thor: Ragnarok together and spent an hour talking about the truth about Asgard's history afterward. That kind of conversation doesn't happen often. The film gives you something real to think about together.

Thor: Ragnarok commits to a conclusion that not everyone will appreciate. I found it perfectly right — it refuses easy comfort. If you want tidy resolution you may be frustrated. If you want truth, it delivers.

Thor: Ragnarok has been praised so heavily that no film could live up completely. It's an excellent film — Taika Waititi's comedic reinvention of Thor is genuinely remarkable — but it's not the untouchable masterpiece some claim.

Everyone told me to watch Thor: Ragnarok for years. Finally did and instantly understood why. Cate Blanchett as Hela is immediately apparent. Now I'm recommending it just as loudly to everyone else.
