The world-building is unmatched

Sherlock creates a world so fully realised that every detail feels intentional. The rules are consistent, the consequences are real. genius and loneliness gives the whole world a moral weight that most shows lack entirely.

Slow start but rewards patience

Sherlock takes a few episodes to find its feet. By the time you reach A Study in Pink, you understand what the show is going for. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss has a long game in mind and it pays off beautifully.

A bit overhyped but still very good

Sherlock lives up to maybe 80% of the hype. Benedict Cumberbatch's charismatic reinvention of the character is genuinely excellent. The the battle of wits element is well done. My only complaint is that things drag slightly in the middle. Still four stars.

Absolutely gripping from start to finish

I haven't been this invested in characters since I was a kid. Moriarty is brilliantly written — you understand exactly why they make terrible decisions. the modern London setting is the best part of an already excellent show.

Good but not the greatest ever

Sherlock is excellent television but I wouldn't rank it as the all-time greatest. the modern London setting is legitimately fantastic but some middle episodes lose momentum. Worth watching absolutely, just with tempered expectations.

Some dips but overall a classic

Sherlock has a few uneven episodes across its run but the high points are some of the best television ever made. His Last Vow alone is worth the subscription. the battle of wits is explored in genuinely surprising ways.

One of the decade's defining shows

Sherlock will be talked about in TV history discussions for decades. The way it handles the battle of wits is mature, nuanced, and unflinching. Irene Adler is one of the most complex characters ever written for television.

Excellent ensemble cast

What makes Sherlock special is how every character feels fully realised. Not just Irene Adler — even the minor characters have depth. Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss clearly spent years thinking about this world.
