Changed the way I think about storytelling
Hunter × Hunter took narrative risks that paid off completely. Yoshihiro Togashi's willingness to subvert expectations while honouring its themes makes it genuinely original. The Chimera Ant Arc arc is one of the great story arcs in all of fiction.

The characters are incredibly well written
Hisoka's development across the series is one of the most convincing character journeys I've experienced. You understand every choice even when you disagree with it. Gon's heartbreaking transformation makes the whole thing click.

The world-building is extraordinary
Hunter × Hunter creates a world with its own logic, history, and rules. Everything is internally consistent. The way the cost of obsession shapes the world's politics and relationships is incredibly thoughtful. Killua's emotional journey is the payoff to years of setup.

I always skipped anime. A friend made me watch Hunter × Hunter and now I understand the fuss. the darkness within people is explored in ways that make Western animation feel shallow by comparison. Just try it.

If someone wants to understand what makes anime special, I recommend Hunter × Hunter first. It demonstrates everything: the visual storytelling, the emotional range, the commitment to character. the Chimera Ant arc as one of anime's greatest achievements is the best single example.
